Incorta Nexus Chat
Nexus Chat is an Incorta AI-powered interface for exploring business data and generating insights through natural language. It delivers context-aware answers and visualizations to ensure responses are accurate and trustworthy. Nexus Chat enables a more efficient and insightful way to analyze data directly within the platform.
Prerequisites
To interact with the Incorta Nexus, users must have ADVANCED_AUGMENTED_ANALYTICS permission. This permission is available to the following roles:
- SuperRole
- Nexus User
Starting 2025.7.1, Incorta Copilot has been renamed to Incorta Nexus.
Define context
Context is not required for Nexus to respond to user prompts, but can improve the speed and quality of output.
- In Nexus chat, context can be defined by selecting + in the prompt window.
- Select Business View or Insight
- For Business Views, select a schema and a view. For a user to see a view, all of the following must be true:
- A verified view
- Enabled for Nexus
- User has been granted view access to the Business Schema
Starting in 2024.7.1, users can copy a link to selected context through the context window once a view is defined. This link can be shared or embedded in dashboard with a Rich Text component.
Prompt shortcuts
Three key characters can assist with actions and type-ahead options when creating a prompt. All characters are optional, but they will improve the quality of the response.
/- A forward slash triggers an advanced Nexus action. These actions include generating forecasts, clustering data, and other actions.@- This character displays a menu of all columns available in the view set within the Nexus context. Continue typing the column name to search among the displayed values.#- This character enables the user to select a data value from the dataset. Continue typing to refine the data value search further. Note that values are organized by columns.

Reset chat
This selection will erase the conversation, the context, and any views associated with the context.
Verbosity settings
- Summary - When toggled on, a summary will be returned in the Nexus response, along with a dataset or visual. Summary-level statistics are shared with the LLM to generate a summary. Turning off the summary will result in a faster response time.
- Verbosity - The verbosity selection will dictate the summary length with only marginal performance improvement.
- Detail - Full detailed summary of the dataset
- Brief - A few brief highlight statistics of the dataset
Target view
In versions before 2024.7.4, a view is required for context. After the release of 2024.7.4, users can execute a prompt, and Nexus will search for the best business view. For the fastest performance, it is recommended that users select a view before executing a prompt.
Minimize/maximize
Nexus will toggle between full screen and a side-panel view when selecting this option.
View chat history
The History panel, located on the left side of Incorta AI chat, is expandable and collapsible and displays all previous chat sessions. Only the active session accepts new questions. This option is available starting 2026.3.0.
Display multiple sessions in parallel
Run multiple chat sessions in parallel, each with its own context. This option is available starting 2026.3.0.
Dock and pin insights
Dock and pin insights to the session canvas for side-by-side comparison while continuing the conversation. This option is available starting 2026.3.0.
Copy or download generated content
Use the centralized action area below each response to copy or download generated content. This option is available starting 2026.3.0.
Generate pre-defined context links for insights
Generate a predefined context link directly from a chat session using the /copy-context-link command. This link captures the current chat context and can be embedded in a dashboard using a Rich Text insight. When accessed within the dashboard, Incorta AI launches with the context already applied. This option is available starting 2026.3.0.
Exit chat
This option will exit Nexus, but the conversation will persist throughout the session. The escape key will also exit Nexus
Response Anatomy
Dataset
A dataset will be provided in any response from Nexus. An optional second view lets you switch to a column chart.
Transparent thinking
When generating a response, Nexus may display its reasoning process as it prepares the SQL query for an insight. This includes an initial candidate query, a plain-language breakdown of the logic applied — such as which columns were selected, how values were counted or aggregated, and how results were grouped — followed by the final query that was executed. Transparent thinking allows users to follow and verify the steps Nexus took to arrive at its answer.
Reference questions (if applicable)
If Reference Questions have been configured for the active Business View, Nexus may match the user's prompt to a saved, verified question. When a match is found, the response displays a verified data query badge. Hovering over the badge shows a tooltip that highlights any differences between the user's question and the saved reference question, helping users confirm the trustworthiness of the result.
SQL breakdown
A SQL breakdown is available for any response from Nexus where data was returned. This breakdown provides transparency regarding which query was executed against the view to achieve the result. Additionally, Nexus will include pseudo-logic to highlight the steps of the query. By doing so, Nexus allows users to verify the accuracy or relevance of the response.
Summary
When toggled on in the verbosity settings, Nexus will help provide a natural language response and narrative about the data that was returned.
View reference
At the bottom of the response, a small selection shows the view used for the context. Often, this can be a confirmatory view, but when using a semantic search (with no context assigned), it can indicate the selected view. The selected view is not applied to the conversation's context for semantic searches until "set" is chosen. Changing this value will use the context for subsequent prompts.
Recommended insights
While processing requests, the prompt will also scan related insights across the platform and provide them as follow-up recommendations in the prompt. Selecting the insights will give a preview in the Nexus viewport, with an additional option to navigate to the insights directly.
Security
Responses of Nexus will feature the same security benefits as those expected of dashboards.
- Users cannot query views they do not have view access to
- A business schema manager must enable views
- Nexus will enforce RLS in responses
- Nexus will not recommend content to a user that they do not have access to
