About a dynamic field
A dynamic field is a group of dynamically interchangeable fields filtering option that affects all applicable insights on all tabs of the given dashboard.
A dynamic field enables the dashboard consumer to change the view between data that you need to display on a certain dashboard without having to create multiple dashboards.
A dashboard developer creates one or more dynamic fields.
A dashboard developer with Edit access rights to a dashboard can create and edit one or more dynamic fields. Here is how:
- In the Action bar of a dashboard, select More Options (⋮ vertical ellipsis icon).
- In the More Options menu, select Dashboard Filters Manager.
- In Dashboard Filters Manager, in the Data panel, select + Add in the Dynamic Fields tray.
- Configure the properties of the dynamic field by adding pills.
To apply the dynamic field to insight within a dashboard, you must edit the insight and add the configured dynamic field to its measure tray.
Starting 2024.7.x, you can add a label suffix to the dynamic field group during the insight design, allowing for the usage of dynamic field groups multiple times within an insight while differentiating their intent of use by providing a written value or providing a presentation variable as a suffix.
Properties for a dynamic field pill
The following are the properties of a dynamic field:

Variables in dynamic field
As a dashboard developer, you can use variables in dynamic fields. You can only define these variables in a formula so you can use it. It is important to understand that a dynamic field must have a default value. So to define a variable, you must add it to a formula using the Add formula option.
Supported variables are:
- Date system variable
- External session variable
- Global variable
- Filter expression session variable
- Internal session variable
- Miscellaneous system variable
- Presentation variable
- You can add the dynamic field only to the measure tray.
- You cannot reference a dynamic field in a formula
