About a business schema

A Business Schema represents a logical view of one or more entity objects. As a logical view, the purpose of a business schema is to provide a unified semantic layer for one or more physical schemas and related entity objects. A semantic layer consists both of standardized business terminology for the organization and pre-defined formulas and calculations.

A business schema consists of the following types of Runtime Business Views:

Access to a business schema

A Super User (Tenant Administrator) or a user that belongs to a group with the SuperRole or Schema Manager roles can create a new business schema using the Business Schema Manager. In addition, the user may be able to create, edit, and review the business schemas in a tenant as follows:

  • A user that has View access right to an existing business schema can examine the general properties of a business schema in the Business Schema Manager and the specific details about the runtime business views in the Business Schema Designer.
  • A user that has edit access right to an existing business schema can edit the sharing properties of a business schema in the Business Schema Manager and modify the runtime business views in the Business Schema Designer.
  • The user can reference the business schema in the Data panel of the Analyzer and the Formula Builder.

A user that has view or share access rights to a given business schema, but does not belong to a group with the Schema Manager or SuperRole roles, can reference the business schema in the Data panel of the Analyzer and the Formula Builder.
