Concepts → Certification

The Data Certification feature in Incorta's Data Catalog enables Data Governors to mark specific data assets as verified and reliable. Certification provides a visual indicator to all users that the data asset has been reviewed and approved for use.

Purpose

  • Establish a formal certification process for data assets
  • Create a distinction between validated and unvalidated datasets
  • Promote trusted data sources within the organization

Certification Scope

Certification can be applied to:

  • Individual views within business schemas
  • Entire business schemas (which contains multiple views)
  • Individual tables/objects within physical schemas
  • Entire physical schemas (which contains multiple objects)
Important

Certifying a physical or business schema automatically cascades the certification status to all tables and views within it, and decertifying a schema will decertify all of its child objects.

User Roles and Permissions

Only users with the Data Governor role have permission to certify data assets. This restriction ensures that certification remains a controlled process managed by designated data governance personnel.

Certification Process

Certification marks a data asset as trusted and verified, providing a clear indicator to all users that the asset has been reviewed and approved for use. Certified assets display a certification badge in the Data Catalog, both in list views and on detailed asset pages. This visibility allows users to quickly identify reliable data and filter or search for certified assets when needed.

For information on certifying an individual object, refer to Data Catalog Manager → Certify an Asset.
