About a data alert
A data alert is a scheduled job that evaluates an alert condition. If the alert condition evaluates to True, the scheduled job for a data alert sends an email data notification to one or more users, one or more groups of users, or one or more email addresses.
About an alert condition
An alert condition is an Aggregated Table or a Listing Table insight. You create the insight from the Alert Editor with the Analyzer.
The insight must have at least one measure pill that is a column or a formula column. When the Aggregated Table or Listing Table returns one or more rows, then the condition evaluates to True. When the Aggregate Table or Listing Table returns zero rows, then the condition evaluates to False.
Often an insight filter such as an individual, aggregate, or distinct filter defines the filter expression for the alert condition. As a measure filter only affects only the related measure, it is by itself not an ideal choice for defining an alert condition.
Create a data alert with the Alert Editor
There are two ways to create a data alert with the Alert Editor:
- Set Alert
- Scheduler
Set Alert
You must have edit access rights to the given dashboard. For a given insight, in a dashboard tab that allows for a filter expression, in the More Options menu (⋮ vertical ellipsis), select Set Alert.
Scheduler
To create a data alert from the Scheduler using the Alert Editor, follow these steps:
- Select Data Notifications.
- In the Action bar, select +New → Create Notifications.
